Restorative Dentistry Hamilton

Restorative dentistry is all about repairing and restoring any damage to teeth, gums and other oral parts, or replacing missing teeth, to improve oral health and prevent further damage. We offer restorative dental services, including crowns and bridges, white composite fillings, dental implants, root canals, and more. If you are missing one or more teeth, or have damaged teeth, we can help!

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY TREATMENTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

We strive to provide dental service that patients need and deserve. We provide comprehensive dental services in Hamilton for your dental health, including cosmetic dentistry and restorative dental services. We strive to create a relaxing environment for our patients whether they’re just coming into our office to ask a question, or undergoing more complex restorative dentistry procedures.
Bone and gum grafting is necessary to build up the jaw bone or rebuild gum tissue. People who suffer from periodontal disease or are missing teeth often experience gum tissue loss and bone loss. These patients may need one or both of these grafting procedures done before restorative dental treatments, such as dental implants for missing teeth, can be performed, since adequate gum tissue and bone density is needed to support the dental implants.

Crowns

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over a damaged tooth. It’s used to strengthen and rebuild a damaged tooth or can be used for cosmetic purposes. A thin layer of the surface of the tooth is removed, so that the crown material can fit over it and bond properly. After this, your dentist takes an impression which acts as a mold for a custom crown to be made, which is then cemented onto your damaged tooth.

Bridges

A bridge is a set of artificial teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth, permanently affixed to a dental crown, as an alternative to partial dentures. Bridges are more secure and less likely to slip compared to traditional full or partial dentures. These restorations use tooth-coloured materials for the appearance of natural teeth.

This restorative dentistry procedure is excellent for replacing a missing tooth, as a dental implant is the closest thing to a natural tooth. Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically secured into your jawbone, beneath the gum line, acting as an artificial tooth root. Our dentist uses the implant posts to mount dental crowns, which act as replacement teeth. Dental implants are strong enough to support bridges and dentures.

Root canal procedures repair tooth damage in the root canals, where infection has spread into the pulp tissues, which include the tooth nerves and blood supply. In these situations, simple fillings are not able to fully restore the teeth, so root canal therapies are required.

There is a lot of stigma around the term “root canal,” which people often relate to an overly-painful procedure. However, an anaesthetic is used to minimize pain and discomfort, and not treating the dental infection will become very painful. In these situations, if the tooth is not treated, you could lose it. Leaving it is also dangerous, as the infection can spread, so it is important for your oral health to have these treated.

Fillings are used to repair cavities, by filling in the hole created, to restore the structure of the tooth. They make a tooth stronger again and help prevent further damage.

We use white composite fillings, which are made of a mixture of acrylic and glass. This composite material is tooth coloured, so makes very natural-looking fillings that are nearly invisible. The material is strong enough to be used on any tooth. Your dentist will start by cleaning out the decay from the tooth. Layers of the composite material are painted and molded onto the teeth in layers, and cured with a blue wavelength light.

Your wisdom teeth are the last molars on each side of the lower and upper jaws and are usually the last set to grow in the mouth. Most people don’t feel them coming in until they’re in their late teens or early twenties.

While these molars can erupt through the gum line without causing problems, often, there is insufficient room in the mouth for them to erupt without pushing on other teeth, or for them to erupt fully, and they are impacted. For impacted wisdom teeth and in other cases where these teeth may negatively impact your oral health and other teeth, it is recommended to have the wisdom teeth extracted.

Regular dental visits allow dentists to monitor the progress of tooth development from an early age, until adulthood.
